Untitled:

This is one of my successful photographs I have ever taken throughout my years shooting photography.  This was taken in Erie, Pennsylvania with my 35mm Nikon camera.  I took this several years ago and by far this has been one of my favorite and most successful photographs I have captured. This took me numerous shots and angles in order to find the most successful image.  Any time I photograph a subject I try to take 5-8  pictures of it using different angles and settings because after the image is captured it is never the same again. The title of this has and will remain untitled because I cannot come up with a perfect name to fit the photograph. I find that a black and white photograph does more to the viewers mind than a color one because color can sometimes take away the true beauty of the image being photograph.  I feel that this photograph is very calming and peaceful.  What are your thoughts and overall feelings about this photograph.

  1. I love photography and taking photos. I'm looking forward to your blog entries. Do you still use film for photographing?

I do agree that black and white photography has a special appeal but it doesn't work for everything.

Just a little editorial note, I think "years shooting photographs" would be more accurate.

  2. Ah--thank you for the grammar check, I should have been more careful when writing :)

I do use film now and then, but about a year ago I purchased a Nikon d5000 and since then I have stuck to that. I do agree with you that black and white cannot work for everything.

I might add I am looking very forward to reading your blog on cooking, it is something I really enjoy doing!

  3. Great picture, and I like your insight on photography. I've worked many, many times with photographers and have taken a lot of pictures for stories over the last three years.

From your blog alone and your picture, you've influenced me and hopefully a decision that will be made within the Nittany Pride - Pen Ken's newspaper. As the sports editor I will obviously push for Joe Paterno to be on the next front page of our next issue, which should be a foregone conclusion. More importantly, and this is the part that relates to you, I feel a black and white picture of Joe Paterno will be more effective than a color one. Hopefully, I can influence my fellow editors in the same way you've influenced me.

    1. Thank you so much, I appreciate it.

I completely agree with you that a black and white photograph of Joe Paterno would be more effective than a color one. I feel that it would give a bigger impact on the reader. I hope you succeed in influencing them! :)

  4. A picture really is worth a thousand words. Before you snapped this picture what was it that caught your eye? Overall, I do agree about the previous black and white comments. But, black and white suits this picture quite well. Great blog and keep the pictures coming.

    1. thank you so much!

I think what caught my eye was the great detail of the tower itself. I think the peeling of the paint on it is very eye catching. I also liked the contrast between the tower itself and the sky behind it.

  5. Jenna,
I really like this photograph that you picked for your first blog entry. This photo is outstanding and I look forward to future blog entries. I feel if I saw this is person I wouldn't have the same affect that it does on me now, especially being black and white. I agree with you saying that it remains untitled because I don't know if there are words to describe this perfectly. I like the photograph not having a title because it lets the viewer decide.

    1. Thank you so much Kelsey! I appreciate the feedback you are giving me and I never thought of leaving the picture untitled to allow the view to decide what they think it is, that could make for an interesting blog post in the future!
